Award won in major Cologne hub project
At the beginning of April, DB Engineering & Consulting (DB E&C), in an engineering consortium with the Cologne branch office of SPI, was awarded the contract for the DB Netz part of the project to extend the core section of Cologne’s S11 S-Bahn line, and will continue to be involved in implementing the region's most important local transport project. Complex constructions are being designed within a demanding timeline using building information modeling (BIM).
The design contract covers DB Netz AG’s facilities along the route from Köln Hansaring via Cologne Main Station to the new Köln-Kalk West stop. The final design and planning for building permit application phases in the BIM methodology have been commissioned. The contract also contains the option to take on the construction drawings, preparation of tender documents, and evaluation of bids phases. DB E&C is in charge of transport facility design and rail equipment design.
The partner company SPI, with its extensive experience in urban subway planning, is responsible for building the complex construction located at Cologne Central Station. The basic evaluation and preliminary design phases were successfully completed in September 2018 with the Environment, Geotechnics & Survey department at DB E&C.
